I think that the idea of partitioning Iraq to solve your short term problems is irresponsible. Only an inclusive secular state can be stable not countries carved out of religion or ethnicities. Sure it will help the US withdraw faster but at what cost? The way I see it you caused the mess there so you better fix it. India was partitioned into Pakistan and Bangladesh by the British and we hate them for it even today. Did the partition of Israel help in the middle east? Heck maybe the US civil war was a mistake too, the troops could have 'come home' if you just let the south breakaway!
